Street Fighter x Tekken has gained its first major piece of downloadable content today. Well, downloadable-ish. Twelve new characters join the roster, bringing the number of characters in the game up to a slightly daft fifty. Well-loved Tekken characters like Jack and Bryan now have the opportunity to be caught in endless blockstrings fight against Street Fighter characters like Elena and Blanka, for the price of 1600 MSP for the 360 version. The PS3 DLC is out tomorrow.
In case you’ve not been following Street Fighter x Tekken much, the new characters are:
- Bryan
- Jack-X
- Lars
- Alisa
- Christie
- Lei
- Sakura
- Blanka
- Dudley
- Elena
- Cody
- Guy
Along with the DLC character launch, Capcom have also updated the game to version 1.06, which features notable balance changes to certain characters to bring them more in line with what the rest of the cast can do. The patch notes are all over the web already, but here they are for the sake of a complete article:
Ryu
• Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku: Hit box reduced, movement amount reduced, frame advantage on block reduced by 5F.
• H. Jōdan Sokutō Geri: Speed reduced, and changed to -6F on block.
Ken
• Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku: Hit box reduced, movement amount reduced, frame advantage on block reduced by 5F.
Rolento
• LP: Recovery frames changed from 8->10F. Opponent block stun reduced from 10->6F. Push back distance when guarded increased.
• c.LP: Hurt box size increased.
Juri
• Kaisen Dankairaku: Damage reduced from 350->300.
Akuma
• Tatsumaki Zankukyaku: Hit box reduced, movement amount reduced, frame advantage on block reduced by 5F.
Yoshimitsu
• Move listed properly:j.forward f+LK → MK
Raven
• LP: Opponent block stun reduced from 10->8F. Push back distance when guarded increased.
• Number of possible cr.HP Wind Cross dash cancel loops has been reduced from 5 to 3.
Xiaoyu
• Number of possible cr.HK Phoenix loops has been reduced from 6 to 3.
• Follow up attack after Overhead->Hakkesho is now possible.
Overall, in my opinion, every change that’s been made is a positive move for the game. Ryu, Raven, and Rolento all deserved to have their extremely silly ways of creating frame advantage and endless pressure removed, and lowering the damage from Raven and Xiaouyu’s one-move juggles helps make the game a little more balanced. One thing to be down about is the fact that this is still only a relatively minor balance patch to a game that has not had a positive reception at all. Capcom’s UK SFxT Community Manager David Hinds, aka Dawgtanian, tweeted that there are discussions being had about a larger balance patch, but nothing had been decided as of yet.
In related news, everyone’s favourite Newcastle-based video maker, Desk, also put up a video showcasing a pretty snazzy combo using one of the new DLC characters, Sakura – the video is included below.
